WHAT: The local fighters will participate in a press conference to discuss the upcoming STRIKEFORCE Challengers event on Friday, Nov. 19, at Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Miss.

The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight card presented by Rockstar Energy Drink will mark STRIKEFORCE’s initial foray into the state of Mississippi.

UFC Ultimate Fighter vet Wes “The Perfect Storm” Shivers (7-1), of Brandon, Miss., will face Goldman Butler (1-3), of Tupelo, Miss., in a featured heavyweight undercard bout.

Jacob “Psycho” Noe (3-1), of Memphis, Tenn., will take on Wesley “Pit Bull” Little (2-4), of Columbus, Miss., in a light heavyweight scrap.  James Sharp (7-2), of Biloxi, Miss., will face Jeremiah “Bigg Rigg” Riggs (6-5), of Vicksburg, Miss., in a middleweight bout.  In another local fight, Dave Martin, of Southaven, Miss., will face Jamie Houston, of Olive Branch, Miss., in a matchup of two fighters making their professional debut.

In addition to the local talent on the card, lightweight star and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro will take on Justin “The Silverback” Wilcox in the main event.

In a featured televised bout, unbeaten lightweight Ryan Couture (1-0) will face an opponent to be determined. The son of legend Randy Couture won his STRIKEFORCE and MMA debut with a 1:15, first-round submission (triangle choke) over Lucas Stark last Aug. 13 on STRIKEFORCE Challengers.

Clash In the Cage

September 18th at the Wahabi Shriners in Byram

The hardcore 14 card event opened with two up and coming MMA superstars fighting it out. This match was the first time that either of the competitors had stepped into the octagon. Northwest Rankin senior, Blake Kennedy took the second round win over Brandon Shackelford by submission 39 seconds into the 2^nd round.

Brandon “The Beast” Evans vs. Shane Easley would be awarded the MORA “Fight of the Night”  award after Evans caught Easley in a rear naked choke hold just 1:50 into the second round. A full list of amateur event results is listed below.

Unfortunately the first pro event of the evening between Tony “Babalu” Godbold and Tel Faulkner ended in a no contest after Faulkner suffered an accidental gouge to the eye. In other pro-MMA action, Cory Holder would submit to Ryan Caprari’s guillotine 3:37 into the second round.

In Co-Main event action, Brian Albin and Justin Thornton would provide the Psychout faithful with some awesome MMA action. Albin and Thornton at times stood toe to toe slugging it out and putting on a show with some great mat technique. Albin would take the win over a battered and bloodied Thornton 3:03 into the 2^nd round by ref stoppage due to multiple strikes.  Albin has to be one of the hottest MMA fighters in the South right now. He is riding a win streak that is proving that Albin is up for any challenges.

The Main Event of the evening saw John “Hollywood” Harris taking on Cody Southwood. Southwood would take the fight on less than 48 hours notice after originally scheduled competitor Juan Zapatta broke his hand during a late Thursday training session. Hollywood would win the Psychout Promotions Lightweight Title using the rear naked choke hold just 2:21 into the first round. The title was forfeited by Trey Brown due to the inability to compete to defend the title. Psychout fans should be very interested in knowing that a Brown / Hollywood Harris match is in the near future.

Matt Lord was award the Guichet Law Firm “Submission of the Night” award after he took the win over Clay Wallace just 2:01 into the first round. Lord would use the triangle choke hold to take the win. Lord was also donating all his winnings to his “Fight for Haiti” campaign. Psychout Promotions CEO Brian McGuire and CFO Forrest Welker presented Lord with a $1000 donation check from Psychout for his “Fight for Haiti” campaign.

John "Hollywood" Harris

The first event of 2010 will be held on February 27. Headlining the first event of 2010 will be champion Trey “Smash” Brown vs. John “Hollywood” Harris. The two guys are going to “Bring it On”. Hollywood Harris showed his explosiveness with his quick dispatch of Babalu at the last Psychout event. Harris knows that he will have a fight on his hands with Smash Brown. Look for these two guys to be in each other’s face the entire fight. It should be a war and with these two guys, surrender is not an option. Also on the February 27th card will be Brian Albin vs. Justin Thornton. These guys are going to compete at 215lbs and should be one that the fans will not forget. Albin will be out for Team Hammer Hill revenge against Thornton. Thornton defeated Albin’s training partner, Chris Wright, at the last Psychout event. The other pro event of the night will pit Corey “Train” Holder against Ryan Capari. This will be Holder’s first lightweight fight in a few years and Capari has been training hard at Alan Belchers’s gym, Remix.
